Tim Ruddy

Performing Arts Specialist

Tim hails from the west of Ireland and started his career at The Royal Court Youth Theatre in London. He has performed professionally in London, Dublin, Los Angeles and New York in theatre, film, television and radio. As well as being an actor, he has also found success as a writer and a director. His recent award winning play, The International, had two successful Off-Broadway runs in New York City. Furthermore, Tim’s work as an Off-Broadway director has garnered him nominations, awards and accolades. As an artist, Tim has become acutely aware of the power of drama to educate, heal and empower individuals be they young or old. Through participation in theater exercises and games, Tim has realised the study of drama and the performing arts can offer many avenues of development for the young mind-personally, socially, culturally and educationally. The study of character and relationships through drama can provide an opportunity for a student to engage in a process of comparison and self-reflection that can reveal their own natural qualities and abilities. It can help them recognise and understand complex emotions as they experience the world around them and develop. This safe outlet of expression is invaluable. We all need creativity in our lives. Without theatre and the arts there would be no oasis to retreat to and no escape from our chaotic New York lives. Young students need this as well. A place where they can shut out the humdrum of the world and immerse themselves in a creative universe. Keys to Literacy and Learning’s customized approach allows Tim to work with students of all ages and abilities in an engaging and innovative way.

Jenny Green

Performing Arts Specialist

Jenny D Green is a Brit-born, Brooklyn-based actor and producing artist. She has performed in more than 100 plays, readings, short films and voiceovers and also is founding producer and host of a regular radio podcast, as well as running her own production company. Jenny loves developing new work and has been involved in several workshop productions as actor, designer, producer and writer. In her work with children - including time as an early years development teacher - Jenny encourages creative play as a means to understanding and enjoying the world around us. She finds herself constantly rejuvenated by the energy and imaginations of children. Her proudest achievement at the Greenwich Village theatre she managed (Manhattan Theatre Source) was devising and running a summer theatre programme for 7-16 year olds. Theatre is an invaluable part of education, encouraging empathy for and appreciation of others, as well as confidence in self. Theatre-games develop the vital life skills of listening, focus, spacial-awareness and teamwork: learning how to relax and be present sparks joy and creative energy. And the ability to relate to theatrical text and performance sharpens both the mind and spirit, as well as providing insights into other worlds, that might otherwise be inaccessible.
